Protest Rally at Catherine Hill Bay 24th Feb 2008

On Sunday 24 th February the Catherine Hill Bay progress Association held a HELP SAVE CATHERINE HILL BAY RALLY. Around 200 people turned up and there was a mass of red SAVE CATHO t-shirts and green National Trust flags.

 Tina Jackson, Executive Director(NSW)  National Trust of Australia, spoke about the importance of saving our heritage and the threat to heritage in our state now that the Minister of Planning has abolished the Heritage Office and can override heritage legislation by using Part 3A of the Land and Environment Assessment Act.

Mr Jack Mundey, who is the chair of Historic Houses Trust of NSW and an admired union and environment activist is the Patron of the Catherine Hill Bay Progress Association, said we are returning to the Bob Askin era in NSW where protections are being stripped away and the people of NSW are being walked over by the government and developers. He urged everyone to come to the rally in Sydney against the privatization of electricity on Tuesday 26 th February

Peter Morris, President URGE, the United Residents Group Environment spoke about the damaging of fragile bushland and proposals to develop   Crangan Bay , the last untouched bay on Lake Macquarie .
